Taking Care of the Mundane

Monday, November 5, 2012

The problem with giving yourself just a few short weeks to prepare for a round the world bike trip, is you quickly find out all those little jobs that you should have taken care of months ago. I’ve just come from the opticians, where he fleeced me for mega money to repair my two sets of prescription spectacles. A bit annoying on my part, as I could easily of had them done under warranty many weeks ago.
Then of course I have to sort out a dentist to have a tooth removed, but again I could have done this months ago. My daily medication thankfully has been sorted, largely due to a very helpful lady at the local medical center. I expected to have all sorts of problems with not being registered, but she was so happy to help once I told her my story!

I’ve also had to sort out my banking, a difficult one for me as I’m truly hopeless with finances and bills. But I think I’ve almost got there, just have to call in at a branch and organise my travel cards and overseas banking. Taking advice from others who have gone before me, I’ve made sure if I’m robbed I have valid cards to give my attacker(s), but with little money available.

And that’s about it, the packing is almost done and I’m just waiting for the final items to arrive care of Amazon and the internet. It’s been like Christmas for me this last week, opening boxes and parcels like a little kid. Then again, I hope to be in Morocco for the real one and it’ll be a lot warmer than here in the UK. 🙂

Which brings me on to the question I’m being asked most – do you have a route sorted?
Well yes I do, at least up until next summer if all goes as planned. I’ve just added an extra page called My Route, so head on over there and take a look.
